Partial is an artist from Portland, OR I recently came across and I was floored by his unique productions. The first song I heard was Descent and I was immediately impressed by the dark atmosphere Partial was able to create throughout the track. Partial says the song is about “going to the ninth level of the inferno” and I think the song captured that perfectly. This is the song I would play if I were falling to the depths of hell. Partial’s new song Chuckles was just released and is a mid-tempo powerhouse. Chuckles has seriously powerful wubs, not to mention some nonstop pounding drum work. His new track Chuckles just released and is a mid-tempo powerhouse of a song. With the quality and diversity of his recent productions, I am positive we will be hearing a lot more about Partial in the future. Partial and I linked up to talk more about his new track, his musical journey, influences, and the future.</font

What inspired you to make Chuckles and how did the song come together?

I was going through a lot of stressful stuff at the time I started. I was freshly laid off, had a recent breakup, and self-worth issues were fueling my creativity. I love laughing and making others laugh, especially in rough times. Chuckling has always added light to my dark times. After finding the dolphin laugh sample that’s in there, the song just spun itself out from there.

How did your electronic music journey begin and when did you begin producing?

I got into electronic music when I was young, around 2008. I’ve always been involved with music, played sax in middle school and then guitar from high school until now. I got into production about 10 years ago but I didn’t get really serious about it until around 2014 after college where I had studied jazz guitar. The first rave I attended wasn’t until I was 17 and I had just moved back to Portland. I can’t remember it that well, but I can say I fell in love with the scene immediately.

What DAW do you use to produce and what are some of your favorite VST’s?

I use Ableton Live and honestly, the FabFilter proQ, MB, Valhalla Room, Ozone, and Trash2 are all used the same amount for 3rd party. My favorite things to use in general are Ableton’s Operator and my Behringer Neutron for sound creation.

What producers do you think are pushing the boundaries at the moment/inspire you the most?

Biggest inspirations hands down are Kursa, Chee, kLL sMTH, COPYCATT, DMT (from the Netherlands), Aagentah, and all the roster at my label Go To Your Room! Records

If you could be stuck for a year in a music scene from any time period. What would it be?

The current underground bass scene to be honest.

What can we expect next from Partial?

Constant singles every month is what I have lined up right now. These will be Independently released by me, along with some label releases already lined up for the future that I’m excited about. I also have some sample packs, remix opportunities, and music videos in the works too

Goto Your Room Records is loaded with talented artists/producers. What can we expect next from the label and artists?

Yeah!! I’m so stoked for my label and crew right now. We are currently finding venues to set up monthly events in Eugene and Portland, Oregon. We have Tsou’s mix coming out February 3rd. We also have a string of singles coming out every week in March, which are all collabs. There are also other exciting things I can’t speak of at the moment!

Thanks for your time and cheers!

Cheers! Really appreciate you guys having me on! Love what y’all are doing
